Welcome! About Mr. Hophan
Hello! My name is Tuan Hophan and I am a social studies teacher at Lawndale High School, my alma mater! I attended both Leuzinger and Lawndale for high school, then went on to study economics and psychology as my undergraduate majors at UCLA and later enrolled into the masters program at UCLA TEP.
I love to teach US Government and Economics, US History, Psychology, and Ethnic Studies!

"Coming from a family with no college experience and a low-socioeconomic background, I know what it is like to struggle with adversity on the academic level. However, with the support from my family and some dedicated teachers, I was able to graduate as valedictorian of my class and attend one of my dream universities. Through my own personal experiences, my biggest strength lies in my empathy and ability to relate to the disadvantaged students. That is why as a high school and university student, I volunteered and tutored children from low-income schools through various programs such as the Watts Tutorial Program. I also not only tutored children and helped them with their homework but also mentored college-bound high school seniors and helped provide SAT preparation through the Bruin Initiative Program. At each step, I not only became passionate about providing quality education to as many children as I could but also became committed to the ideal that education should not be limited for any reason to any child who is willing to learn. I had seen that I could help students overcome the limitations placed by them and that I could make a difference in my community if I were to pursue teaching and education as a career path. Thus, by applying the skills and knowledge that I have acquired throughout my educational career, I want to support these disadvantaged students to overcome their adversities and become the best version of themselves."
